Brinda Karat  leads march by
farmers and tribals, courts arrest

Udaipur, Aug 10 : Senior CPI-M leader Brinda has courted arrest after leading a protest march by farmers and tribals here in support of their land rights and demands for proper health care and education facilities in the tribal region.

She courted arrests after the march held yesterday.

Terming the Union and the state governments as "anti-tribal, anti-Dalit and anti-farmer," Karat said, “They are usurping the land and other resources of the tribals and poor farmers.”

In Udaipur itself, she said, adivasi's huts were demolished and the people were arrested despite an assurance by the divisional commissioner to the contrary.

The march was taken out on a joint call by Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sabha, Adivasi Adhikar Manch,  Adivasi-Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, Adivasi Jan Adhikar Ekta Manch, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and other organisations.
