New Delhi, December 4: Delhi State Committee of CPI(M) welcome the notification to implement the minimum wage order of Hon’ble Supreme Court issued on 31st October 2018  and notified by Delhi Govt from 1st November 2018. According to the new notification issued by the Delhi Government wages are to be compulsorily disbursed only by cheque or bank transfer directly to the workers account.  No doubt this is welcome step and victory of trade union movement which is demanding 18,000/- minimum wage for the workers of Delhi.

Though not enough but increase in minimum wages is significant and big victory for the workers who had waged struggles to realize the demands of minimum wages and protection of labour laws. Minimum wages for workers in various industrial types units in Delhi are fixed by the state govt. through a Minimum Wage Board that has representatives of workers, employers and the govt. In May 2017, the govt. had announced a 37% hike in minimum wages following a Board recommendation to that effect. However, this order was hotly disputed by various industry bodies in Delhi. After hearing the petition in this regards Supreme Court directed that a 37% hike in minimum wages to be restored and Delhi Govt has brought notification in this regards to for the implementation of above order.

Therefore, it is necessary for the Govt. and enforcement agencies to take appropriate measures so that implementation of the act and notification as regards to minimum wages is implemented from top to the bottom and benefits reaches to the workers of Delhi without any further hurdle.
