Debt-ridden farmer commits
suicide in Maharashtra



Nashik, Jan 23 :  A 60-year-old farmer allegedlycommitted suicide here in Maharashtra apparently due to cropfailure and debt burden, police said Wednesday.

Deepak EknathVazre, a resident of village Mukhed inYeola tehsil, hanged himself using his turban at his residenceTuesday, they said.

Vazre, who owned agriculture landatMukhed, hadsuffered losses due to drop in crop production, the policesaid, adding he had also taken loan from a cooperativesociety.

Reduction in farm production and rising loan burdenmay have driven him to take the extreme step, they said.

A case of accidental death has been registered andfurther probe was underway, the police added.
