2019-12-02

December 02, 2019 : Rajya Sabha members cutting across party lines on Monday condemned the gruesome rape and brutal murder of a 27-year old veterinarian in Hyderabad last week. She added that the security personnel in-charge of the area in Hyderabad where the crime took place be held accountable and questions be asked. "They must be named and shamed," Bachchan said.

"These types of people (the rape accused in the Telangana case) need to be brought out in public and lynched," Jaya Bachchan said, adding, "I think it is time... the people want the government to give a proper and definite answer".

MPs cutting across party lines condemned the recent spurt in crime against women and demanded stringent laws that punishes the guilty within a fixed time-frame.

Four men, all lorry workers, aged between 20 and 24, were arrested on November 29 on charges of raping and killing the woman and had been sent to judicial custody for 14 days on Saturday. The charred body of the 25-year old woman, who worked as an assistant veterinarian at a state-run hospital, was found under a culvert in Shadnagar in Hyderabad on November 28, a day after she went missing.

According to media reports, the four accused had carefully planned the rape and murder in great detail.
